My name is Faiza Ikram and I am a freelance writer and blogger. I recently received a Bachelor’s degree in English from Elmhurst College. This fall, I will be starting my Master of Arts in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse at DePaul University.
I started this blog to help student writers and student journalists. At Elmhurst College, I was a writer and news editor at the student-run newspaper. I was also a writing tutor at Elmhurst College’s Writing Center for a year and a half.
I saw a need for student writers and journalists to gain accessible, easy-to-read, and brief tips on improving their writing whether it be academic, professional, or news writing. I saw students struggling when writing research papers or essays, and I experienced and then later observed the difficulty of switching from academic writing to news writing when working on a student newspaper.
This blog consists of advice, tips, and instruction on topics such as starting a college research paper or essay or writing a news article.
Although I have professional and academic experiences within the writing field, I am not an expert. I still consider myself a student of writing. However, the information on this blog consists of what I learned in my classes, learned from work experiences, or read from books on writing.
